The City of Corona desires to share in regional goals of cleaner air and recognizes the value that clean air has in benefiting the health of Coronas citizens, attracting businesses, and improving the quality of life in Corona. It maintains a goal to purchase clean-fueled vehicles as replacement of existing vehicles when feasible. To this end, on February 19, 2003, the City of Corona adopted a resolution to purchase five alternative fuel medium-duty vehicles.

The City of Corona purchased the five vehicles from a local automobile dealer due to their immediate availability.
The objective of the project was to purchase five (5) Ford F-150 pickup trucks equipped with 5.4L V-8 compressed natural gas (CNG) engines. The vehicles have a life expectancy of 8 years with use of approximately 10,000 miles per year per vehicle. The vehicles will be used by the Citys Department of Water and Power Water Meter Reading Program.
The CNG vehicles have been delivered and placed into service. Fleet and maintenance staff has not noted any additional maintenance or mechanical problems with the vehicles and they are satisfied with the vehicles. The City reports that the only difficulty with the use of the vehicles is within the procurement process. The vehicles are made to order and their delivery time can take from 90 to 120 days.
