Vehicles were purchased following the Citys procurement policies and procedures.
The objective of this project was to purchase two medium-duty Ford E250 commercial vans equipped with 5.4L, 225 hp dedicated CNG engines. Each vehicle has a life expectancy of 8 years and will be used approximately 9,000 miles per year. These vehicles replace zero-emission Ford Ranger Electric Vehicles, whose leases have expired.
The vehicles were put into service in August 2003. One van is used by the Community Services Department to transport equipment and supplies to parks and other City facilities. The second vehicle functions as a delivery transport vehicle for the Maintenance Division. The City reports that the vehicles are dependable and meet all the requirements for which they were purchased. The vehicles are clearly labeled as CNG vehicles and promote the Citys commitment to reduce air pollution. A summary and conclusions on the project, and emission reductions can be found in the Final Report.
