The City of Placentia was in need of access to a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station as the public access facility it had been using, the OK Shell Station on East Orangethorpe, was closing. In addition to the City, the Gas Company and the Placentia-Yorba Linda School District also use the OK Shell Station and are in need of access to a replacement CNG fueling station. By December of 2003, these three fleets plan to have a combined number of 72 CNG vehicles. The development of a CNG fueling station is critical to the Citys ability to provide it services through the use of its CNG vehicles.

The City used its design-bid-build contracting process to design and construct the facility.
The purpose of the project is to plan, engineer, construct, operate and maintain a public access CNG fueling station providing fast-fill and time-fill CNG. The station will be open to users with card payment readers on a 24 hour basis. One island will have two dispensers and each dispenser will have two hoses to accommodate the simultaneous fueling of four vehicles. Ten metered hoses with slow fill capacity will be provided. Accommodation for the addition of 30 more hoses will be incorporated into the site work.
The fueling station was complete and in use as of January 27, 2003. Further information on the scope of the Citys project and its conclusions can be found in its Final Report.
