Project Implementation

The selected sites were spread across the Greater Los Angeles Basin. The cash-out program encouraged carpooling, ridesharing, and use of mass transit. The effects of the reduced emissions would, therefore, be felt beyond the areas around the sites in an unquantified area of commuter traveled miles.

Project Results Description

The parking cash-out programs result in a 20 percent reduction in solo driving, a reduction of 560 (2,800 x 20%) trips or 8,288 vehicle miles (560 x 14.8 miles). Assuming 0.035 pounds of pollutants per mile, this equates to an estimated reduction of 290 pounds of pollutants per day.
