Advanced Remote Sensing Technology Demonstration

Contract Number

$200,000.00
Project Background

Contractor examined the feasibility of adapting existing remote sensing equipment to monitor on-road exhaust emissions from light-duty to heavy-duty vehicles with a major emphasis on remote NOx sensing of heavy-duty high-stack diesel trucks.

Project Implementation

The study was general in nature testing emissions of diesel trucks which operate on most roadways in the state.

Project Results Description

No quantifiable emission reductions resulted from this study, however the development of high-stack emission monitoring capability will be invaluable in identifying those vehicles that do not meet emission standards. Subsequent use of the sensing apparatus will lead to emission reduction.

Project Status Description

Photographs of the newly designed sensing apparatus, details of the design process for high level (off the surface of the road at stack height on a diesel truck) sensing, and emission collection data.
