MSRC ELECTS NEW CHAIR AND VICE-CHAIR

One of the leading organizations funding smog-fighting programs in the Southland has elected Chino Hills Council Member Gwenn Norton-Perry as its Chair. The Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC) allocates funding from a $4 surcharge on vehicle license fees, specifically to be used for local projects designed to reduce air pollution from mobile sources such as cars, trucks and buses. Thirty cents of every surcharge dollar goes into the MSRC fund. The MSRC has just recommended awards totaling more than $7.3 million for various programs, with additional award recommendations anticipated in January. Since its inception in 1991, the MSRC has awarded over $170 million for projects which reduce pollution from motor vehicles.

Norton-Perry represents the San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG) on the MSRC's board, and served as Vice Chair of the MSRC last year. She is active in a number of transportation and regional organizations, serving on the Board of Directors for SANBAG, the County transportation agency, and Omnitrans, the San Bernardino Valley transit agency. She is employed by JG Construction, located in Chino, as a Director of Marketing and Business Development. MSRC Chair Page 2

"The MSRC provides an important source of funding to support the many local leaders and projects that share the MSRC's commitment to reducing air pollution from mobile sources," said Norton-Perry. "The MSRC encourages us to work together to identify ways that this entire region can enjoy clean air that allows those who live, work and visit here, especially our children, seniors and those who already suffer from respiratory problems to be able to breathe without worry."

Temecula Council Member Ronald H. Roberts was elected Vice-Chair of the MSRC. Roberts also serves as president of the Southern California Association of Governments Regional Council and as a Commissioner on the Riverside County Transportation Commission Board of Directors, in addition to several other organizations dedicated to local and regional transportation issues. He is a retired California Highway Patrol Sergeant.

Norton-Perry replaces Bradbury Mayor Beatrice LaPisto-Kirtley as Chair of the MSRC.
