Project Background

USA Waste of California, Inc. (Waste Management) provides solid waste collection and recycling services out of their Corona, CA facility. In order to expand their fleet of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) refuse collection trucks, Waste Management sought assistance to expand their L/CNG refueling station. The MSRC partnered with Waste Management to expand the station's L/CNG throughput capacity as described herein.

Other Information
The air quality benefits associated with an alternative fuel stately typically are assigned to the vehicle component of the overall project as opposed to the refueling station component. This convention avoids the potential double counting of emission reductions.

Project Implementation

The existing L/CNG station was expanded with the addition of one LNG storage vessel, two L/CNG pumps, an odorant injection system, two L/CNG dispensers, and additional L/CNG storage spheres.

Project Objectives

The objective of this project was to expand the natural gas throughput capacity of Waste Management's Corona L/NG station in order to accommodate the refueling needs of a growing natural gas truck fleet.

Project Results Description

The L/CNG refueling station is currently operating in daily service with no issues encountered to date.
