Project Implementation

The station upgrades included installation of two (2) 100 HP Ariel compressors with a combined flow rate of 460 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM). An additional 20,000 standard cubic feet of high pressure natural gas storage was added to the current storage capacity, as well as a new dual hose dispenser unit. Other upgrades include a new fuel management terminal, security camera system, and lighting upgrades. New freeway signage directs motorists of CNG vehicles to the newly reopened public access CNG station.

Project Objectives

SoCalGas partnered with California Trillium Company (Trillium) to upgrade the existing natural gas refueling station located at the SoCalGas Anaheim Base facility. The existing refueling station had experiencd several technical issues and had been closed to the public for a period of several months.

Project Results Description

To date, the Anaheim Base CNG station has dispensed over 500,000 gasoline gallon equivalent (GGE)of natural gas.

Project Status Description

As of April 15 2010, all reconstruction work was complete and the station was fully operational. The station is also demonstrating high reliability and operational availability; no failure related downtime has been experienced to date; the only time the station was inoperable was a few hours to allow installation of the new dispenser and fuel management system.

The upgraded station also accomodates both 3,000 psi and 3,600 psi vehicle fuel systems; this ensures older CNG vehicles equipped with 3,000 psi maximum tanks, such as taxicabs that operate in the Anaheim region, are compatible with the station dispensers. The dispenser is equipped with a card reader that accepts all major credit cards and features a large color display with user-friendly operation features.
