Heavy-Duty Vehicle & Engine Emissions Correlation Study

Contract Number
94008
MSRC Award

Project Background

Contractor collected and correlated exhaust emissions data; i.e., emissions factors from chassis-based emissions testing of three (3) diesel fueled heavy-duty transit buses and engine-based emissions testing of the buses' engines to establish a relationship between the two testing methodologies.

Project Implementation

The benefits of this project are not location specific.

Project Results Description

This project provided research data that will develop and advance current knowledge of heavy-duty vehicle emissions with regard to on-road transit bus emissions and the correlation to engine certification test data. This data was provided to the Environmental Protection Agency to support the use of chassis dynamometer emissions testing of transit buses for the "In-use Urban Bus Annual Testing Program", and to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to enhance the heavy-duty vehicle emissions inventory assessmsent.

Project Status Description

Vehicle operations data, dynomometer testing information and conclusions reached.
