The City of Hemet Public Works Streets Division is responsible for the maintenace of public roadways throughout the City limits. Often roadways projects require the delivery and hauling of large volumes of road base, asphalt and other materials. As older deisel powered equipment began to near the end of its useful life, the City pursued purchase of an alternative fuel vehicle to accommodate the needs of the division.

In September, 2006, purchase of the vehicle was authorized by the City of Hemet City Council. Through a cooperative purchasing agreement with the City of RIverside, a 2006 Autocar Cab-over WX64 CNG dump truck was chosen for procurement. The vehicle was delivered by Carmenita Truck Center in late April 2007 and was put to immediate use as a front line fleet vehicle.
In an effort to continue to promote and encourage use of alternative fuel vehicles, the City of Hemet partnered with MSRC to purchase a CNG 10 cubic yard dump truck for front line use in large construction projects. Purchase of this equipment meant that older, more polluting vehicles could be placed in a "backup" capacity and taken out of daily use.
This vehicle has proven to be a powerful and efficient piece of equipment. Some minor electrical problems related to the cab-over design were discovered and resolved early on. The vehicle has been used by both the Streets and Water divisions, decreasing use of older diesel powered dump trucks. On average, this vehicle is driven 475 miles monthly ( 5,700 annually).
