The MSRC's solicitation for Major Event Center Transportation Programs is now open! This solicitation has up to $4 million in Clean Transportation Funding available for qualified major event centers, not sufficiently served by transit, to partner with transportation providers to get event attendees out of their cars and onto alternative transportation modes. Large events can draw thousands of attendees, adding thousands of cars to surrounding roads and freeways, which causes significant traffic congestion that increases air pollution. The congestion is often made worse when events start during peak traffic periods. By reducing congestion, emissions from automobile stop-and go-driving and queuing also are reduced.
For the fourth consecutive year, the MSRC is providing funding for the Dodger Stadium Express, which provides express roundtrip service on CNG-fueled buses from Union Station to Dodger Stadium for all regular season home games free to any fan with a game-day ticket or $1.50 each way for those without a ticket. For the first time, MSRC funding also will help operate a dedicated bus lane for the Dodger Stadium Express to speed up service to the stadium. Additionally, the MSRC is helping to provide expanded Metrolink service for the cross-town rivalry games with the Angels.
Angels' fans are benefitting too. The Angels Express is back for another year, offering special Metrolink service to Angels Stadium for all regular season evening home games. For $7 roundtrip, the service offers two dedicated trains that travel along Metrolink's Orange County Line corridor from Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo in the South and from LA's Union Station in the north ending at Anaheim station, a few hundred feet from the stadium's entrance. Additionally, on Friday nights there will be service from the Riverside-Downtown station to the stadium.
Southern California residents will benefit from the Major Event Center Transportation Program this summer when the OC Fair Express returns in July. For a nominal fee, fair-goers will be provided with non-stop direct service from various park-and-rides and parking facilities around Orange County to the fair.
The Major Event Center Transportation Programs solicitation is available on the MSRC's homepage at www.CleanTransportationFunding.org. This funding opportunity spans two fiscal years to give additional flexibility to project applicants, and the submission deadline is September 30, 2014.
