POSTAL SERVICE GETS OUT THE WORD 30 MILLION TIMES: SHARING THE RIDE MAKES A DIFFERENCE

If you received mail in Southern California this fall, you've probably had the message reinforced: Share a Ride Just One Day a Week & Make a Difference.

Some 30 million, yes MILLION, pieces of mail sent out through Southern California's Los Angeles and Santa Ana U.S. Postal Service distribution plants between Sept. 22 and October 10 contained that special cancellation message to encourage ridesharing, thanks to an agreement between the MSRC and the Postal Service.

"Clean air is important to the Postal Service for the same reasons that it's important to all Americans. We all want to protect the health of our families and customers, and protect our environment for future generations," noted Dennis Baca, manager of the Postal Service's Environmental Management Policy group and a rideshare enthusiast. "Ridesharing and trip reduction can improve air quality by directly reducing harmful emissions. Best of all, everyone can participate and, in many cases, save a little money in commuting expense at the same time."

The postage cancellations were timed to coincide with the launch of the MSRC's new "Pick a Day, Any Day" rideshare radio ad campaign and Rideshare Week in early October. The Postal Service will also be distributing brochures promoting ridesharing. The MSRC has partnered with the United States Postal Service to support innovative programs to reduce air pollution.
