Project Background

Forty diesel engine United Parcel Service (UPS) package cars were re-powered with Baytech dedicated natural gas 4.3L engines, optimized for low emissions which maintained the performance, fuel economy and reliability equivalent to diesel or gasoline engines currently operational on other UPS package cars.

Project Implementation

Testing was done in San Antonio, Texas, using California Air Resources Board (CARB) standards. In-service operation was conducted in the Los Angeles areas and Ontario, California.

Project Results Description

The NOx emissions of each vehicle were reduced by 4.1 g/bhp-hr by replacing the old Onan 3.4L diesel engines with the Baytech 4.3L CNG engines.
