Contractor constructed a 2400-foot sidewalk on Bryant Street from Yucaipa Boulevard to Date Street. This was the first segment of the Bryant/Oak Glen Sidewalk Project. The constructed sidewalk is parallel to a five-lane secondary highway. The sidewalk is adjacent to residential areas and connects to elementary and secondary schools. Children may walk to school safely on the sidewalk instead of in the street. Parents no longer have to drive the students to and from school which reduces the amount of vehicular traffic in the area.

The City of Yucaipa is engaged in a large program of sidewalk construction near schools to encourage safe pedestrian access by students. The neighborhoods around the schools benefit from the reduction in emissions.
