The San Fernando Police Department expanded their existing bicycle patrol program with the addition of six new bicycles. In addition to the increased health benefits associated with using bicycles, the police bike officers have found that the bikes allow for increased mobility and greater accessibility throughout their service community.

As a result of using bicycles instead of conventional patrol vehicles, the reduction in vehicle miles traveled (VMT) equated to estimated annual emission reductions of 46 pounds of reactive organic gases, 43 pounds of carbon monoxide, 32 pounds of oxides of nitrogen and 6 pounds of particulate matter.
