The City of Temple City supports the goal of clean air and a healthier environment through the reduction of air pollution from motor vehicles. To this end, the City owned three CNG vehicles which were fueled at a station in East Los Angeles and wished to purchase two new CNG vehicles. Given the travel time involved to get to the site in Los Angeles, the City determined it would be beneficial to construct its own fueling site. Additionally two other entities were interested in using the City facility.

A contract was awarded to Gas Equipment Systems, Inc. to construct the fueling station.
The objective of the project is to construct a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station at the City maintenance yard. Temple City has partnered with the City of San Gabriel and the Los Angeles County Sheriffs department to construct the station. The City of San Gabriel shall use the station as a back up for its fleet. The Sheriffs department has a CNG patrol car assigned to Temple City and will use the new station to fuel its vehicle.
Construction of the station began on January 29, 2001 and was completed by March 21, 2001. Gas Equipment Systems, Inc, trained City personnel on the use and maintenance of the equipment. Initially, there was a problem determining how to bill parties for fuel. To resolve the problem, the City will purchase a card reader system for the fuel station.
