The City of Banning and the Banning Unified School District's fleets of CNG vehicles were fueling at the City's dual-hose, slow fill fueling station, at maximum capacity. Located at Banning's maintenance yard the station was considered to be public access yet the slow fill process of a fueling time of up to 5 plus hours was not convenient for fueling vehicles passing through the area. Given these two factors, the City desired to construct a fast-fill CNG station which would allow for expansion of the City and School District fleet and allow for true public access to the station.

The City of Banning issued requests for proposals for the constrution and operation of the facility. The construction proceeded with little difficulty other than a defective compressor which was easily addressed.
The objective of this project was to construct a publicly accessible CNG fueling station equipped with two (2) fast-fill CNG hoses, dispensing at either 3000 or 3600 psi.
With the establishment of the CNG station, the City of Banning recommends that efforts be made to encourage the use of CNG-fueld vehicles in both the public and private fleets in the area.
The facility is complete and is currently serving the CNG vehicles operated by the City of Banning, Banning Unified School District, Southern California Gas Company and the Army Corps of Engineers. In addition, Waste Management, Yellow Cab, the US Marine Corp and other private individuals have been fueling vehicles at the station.
