The City of Montclair is committed to its use of alternative fuel, clean-air vehicles and is committed to replacing its aging fleet with clean-fueled vehicles. Therefore, when the City was in the market to purchase new vehicles it chose to purchase three low-emission medium-duty vehicles and one heavy-duty vehicle for its fleet. The vehicles will be used daily by staff for various types of inspections and for transporting Montclair citizens to programs.

The City prepared specifications and advertised a competitive bid for the vehicles. Vehicles awarded included a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck equipped with vortec 6,000 300 hp dedicated CNG engine, a 2004 dedicated CNG Chevrolet cargo van, a 2004 CNG E350 super XL 8-passenger van with extended range tanks, and a 2003 dedicated CNG Ford E 450 cutaway super-duty 176 with 16-passenger mini-bus with wheel chair lift.
The objective of this project was to purchase three new low-emission medium-duty vehicles including a pick-up truck, cargo van, an eight-passenger van, and one heavy-duty 16-passenger mini-bus with wheel chairlift. The City chose to purchase compressed natural gas vehicles due to the low-emissions benefits. These vehicles meet the needs of the City and reduce air pollution emissions within the South Coast Air Basin.
All vehicles were placed into service. The Final Report includes a Summary and Conclusions and Emissions Reductions.
