The contract to continue the REgional PM-10 Street Sweeping Program was awarded on April 1, 2008 for another 3 year term. CleanStreet, Inc. from Gardena is the operator.
As a major source of PM-10, blow sand is deposited on roads and arterial highways. As vehicles travel over the roads, the sand is then ground into fine particulates and blown back into the atmosphere. Frequent street sweeping, using alternative fuel sweepers, is an effective strategy for reducing re-entrained road dust and mitigating the airborne PM-10. CVAG's Regional Program mitigates the blow sand through routine and post-event (following windstorms) street sweeping, using alternative fuel street sweepers and equipment on paved roads and major arterials as identified by the participating CVAG member jurisdictions.
Thus far, the CVAG Regional PM-10 Street Sweeping Program, continues to be an effective regional program that addresses the regional PM-10 air quality standard.
