Project Implementation

Avery Petroleum retained Gas Equipment Systems, Inc. (GESI) to install the natural gas refueling station at the existing Shell gasoline station. Construction commenced in July 2009 with the installation of the CNG refueling island. CNG dispenser equipment was installed in August 2009.

The Orange County Fire Authority inspected and signed off on the construction on October 2, 2009. Final sign off from the City of Laguna Niguel was obtained on Octover 5, 2009.

Project Objectives

The objective of this project was to add compressed natural gas (CNG) as an available fuel at the Shell station owned and operated by Avery Petroleum. The intent is to provide convenient, freeway close refueling for natural gas vehicles that operated along the I-5 corridor in South Orange County, including taxicabs that service John Wayne Airport.

Project Results Description

The Avery Petroleum CNG station is one of the first to be constructed in South Orange County that offers 24 hour per day, seven day per week access to CNG on a retail basis. This station fills an important gap along the I-5 corridor and is frequented by CNG taxicabs that serve John Wayne Airport.
