Construct New CNG Fueling Station

Contract Number

Project Background

Alternative fuel infrastructure is an essential, enabling component of a low-emission alternative fuel strategy. The MSRC has historically offered alternative fuel infrastructure incentive programs to assist both public and private fleet owners in transitioning their fleets to low emission vehicles.

Under this project, US Air Conditioning Distributors received Clean Transportation Funding from the MSRC to construct a time fill natural gas refueling station to support US Air Conditioning Distributor's transition from diesel fueled delivery trucks to low-emission natrual gas trucks.

Other Information
Air pollution benefits associated with alternative fuel projects are typically attributed to the low emission vehicles as opposed to the refueling infrastructure. This is done to avoid possible "double counting" of emission reductions. It is important to note that this project enabled US Air Conditioning Distributors to replace 25 older diesel vehicles with new, CARB certified low emission CNG vehicles.

Project Implementation

To meet the projected fleet vehicle refueling needs of US Air Conditioning Distributors, Inc., a refueling system was designed that is capable of time-filling (i.e., "slow fill") up to 20 vehicles at night, with a limited fast fill capability to refuel vehicles during business hours. The selected station configuration incorporates a Marcum 20th Century 60 horsepower Duplex CNG compressor. This dual compressor skid has a capacity of 200 standard cubic feet per minute and has ten (10) dual hose time fill posts.

Project Objectives

The objective of this project was to construct a time fill natural gas refueling station with sufficient capacity to support US Air Conditioning Distributor's growing fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles. The fleet is comprised of 24-foot flat bed heavy duty CNG vehicles and CNG pickup trucks.

Project Results Description

The station is designed to produce 85,000 gasoline gallon equivalent (GGE) of CNG annually. This has allowed US Air Conditioning Distributors to replace 25 older diesel vehicles at their City of Industry facility.

Project Status Description

The project was initiated in June, 2006 and was completed in October 2006. No technical issues were encountered during station construction; however, the City of Industry subsequently required the construction of a block wall at the site so that the station compressor would not be visible from the street.
