The process was started by receiving quotes from vendors, and picking the appropriate vendor through pricing and qualifications. We awarded a contract to EFS West Co., discussed plans and approved design. We then hired Hughes Associates to provide a Fire Protection Engineer to review proposed drawings/plans, calculations and technical reports to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards. Modifications included removing roof mounted Swamp coolers and installing exhaust fans in their place, installing an overpressure fan system to pressurize two offices and a hallway to prevent possible gas seepage into other areas of our building. The buildings existing twenty five gas heaters had to be removed and replaced with explosion proof heaters, a variety of gas monitoring equipment was installed including infrared combustible gas sensors in the maintenance bays, a monitoring system and interior and exterior warning devices. A 105 KW generator was installed to power necessary systems in event of a power failure.
This project's purpose was to modify our maintenance facility in order to service and maintain our fleet of LNG and CNG powered vehicles (58) inside our shop, we have been working on them outside since our first purchases in 2007.
This makes it possible for us to work on our Natural Gas Powered Fleet indoors so we can continue removing Diesel vehicles and replacing them with Natural Gas Powered vehicles. We had reached the point where it was becoming very difficult to maintain this many vehicles outside the maintenance facility.
