On January 1, 2008, Hemet Unified School District began operation of its own compressed natural gas station. Due to the increase in contracts obtained from outside sources and districts, it became necessary to expand the current CNG fueling station located at 1791 W. Acacia Avenue in Hemet.

The implementation began in October 2008 and was fully completed in December 2009. The expanded CNG station consists of one Greenfield 200 SCFM CNG compressor, one ANGI 75 SCFM compressor, 28 dual time fill posts with 56 dispenser hoses, one semi-fast fill dispenser with ASME-rated storage bottles, and on Xebec gas dryer.
The objective of the Hemet USD project was to upgrade and expand the existing Hemet USD compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling station to accomodate growing fleet requirements. The facility was expanded with the addition of 13 K-rail mounted, two (2) hose time fill fueling posts, and to add an additional 75 Standard Cubic Feet per Minute (SCFM) CNG Compressor.
The expansion project was a success and the CNG fueling station is fully operational. On average, 54 buses refuel at the facility overnight. No significant issues were encountered during project implementation. One small oil leak was subsequently repaired. There are currently no unresolved issues. The expanded refueling station dispenses approximately 295,000 therms annually - this equates to approximately 230,000 gallons of diesel fuel displaced on an annual basis.
The expanded CNG refueling station currently regularly accomodates 54 CNG buses. These buses are comprised of both Hemet USD vehicles as well as buses from neighboring districts that utilize Hemet USD's CNG station. All buses refuel at night on a timefill basis.
