Implementation included identification of eligible vehicle, prepare bid specs, authorize purchase, obtain budget authorization, solicit bids, award contract, purchase vehicle, take delivery of vehicle, inspect vehicle, place vehicle in service. The project is complete. The one vehicle has been purchased, delivered and was placed in service in August 2009. The vehicle is used in the daily operations of the Gardena Public Works Department and is performing very well.
The objective of the project was to purchase one alternative fuel dump truck to replace one diesel powered dump truck, thereby reducing diesel emissions generated by Public Works operations
The LPG vehicle is utilized (5) five days per week, a total of approximately 30 hours per week. The project has allowed the City to reduce the number of hours driven by diesel-fueled vehicles, and reduce the number of on-road hours that other diesel fueled vehicles, thus reducing pollutants related to diesel exhaust.
