The City of Covina's compressed natural gas refueling station was originally constructed in 1993. The station is located at the City Corporate Yard and it is a public access station. Over time, as NGV's were made with 3600 psi tanks, our station became obsolete as we had only one 3000 psi dispenser and users were unable to receive a complete and timely fill.

The CNG station upgrade and expansion was successfully completed in June 2013 and the station is currently operational.
The City of Covina made a committment to expand and improve the city's alternative fuel infrastructure in order to provide a modern and convenient fueling station for the growing number of commercial fleets switching to CNG and also support the increase in commuters who are purchasing Natural Gas vehicles readily available on the market.
The upgrade was designed to accomodate future growth in the CNG industry by incorporating the following specifications into the design and construction: all concrete pads for each piece of equipment was sized accordingly to potential upgrades of equipment, especially the original station compressor which was kept during the upgrade to be utilized as a back-up to newly installed compressor. Conduit line has already been installed for the future compressor upgrade. In addition, the concrete pad for the storage vessel that was added was designed to add two more vessels to complete a second cascade to continue to increase storage.
The upgrade has provided the City with a modern CNG fueling facility that will serve the public well in its upgraded capacity. In addition, the upgrade will be a driving factor in the city purchasing more CNG vehicles moving forward due to an increase in storage, addition of a new 3600 psi dispenser and increased station reliability.
