Silverado Stages purchased the six alternative-fueled CNG buses from Creative Bus Sales, located in Chino, California. The vehicles are 28-passenger medium heavy-duty vehicles that operate in a circulator service transporting airport employees from outlying employee parking lots to the airport terminal. The six shuttle buses complete an average of 54,000 total trips each month at John Wayne Airport.
The objective of this project was to implement employee and passenger shuttle service at John Wayne Airport using the lowest-emitting commercially available vehicles. Silverado Stages purchased six new compressed natural gas (CNG) buses to implement the circulator service.
Silverado Stages reports that the new buses have proven highly reliable, with fewer mechanical issues reported compared to their conventionally-fueled fleet. Additionally, the Company is saving approximately $1,700 per month in fuel costs due to the attractive pricing of CNG relative to conventional diesel or gasoline fuels.
All six CNG shuttles are operating daily - no technical issues or problems have been reported.
